Puerto Rico’s El Conquistador Resort offers an aquatic paradise that mimics a nearby rain forest.

Photo courtesy El Conquistador Resort The El Yunque rain forest has inspired the imaginations of Puerto Ricans for generations. Recently it became the inspiration for the Coqui Waterpark at Puerto Rico’s famed El Conquistador Resort & Golden Door Spa in Las Croabas.

Named after the Coqui tree frog, one of the 240 species native to the El Yunque and beloved by the Puerto Rican people, the waterpark is the first located on the Caribbean Sea.

Opened last spring, Coqui is part of an overall $120 million property renovation. The 2.4-acre park is part of the resort’s private Las Casitas Village, featuring secluded one-, two- and three-bedroom villas designed for families.

The waterpark’s jungle-themed design includes waterfalls, rapids and a jungle rope bridge. It blends natural rain-forest design elements with state-of-the-art technology.

Attractions include an 8,000-square-foot lazy river; a 253-foot-long, double-inner-tube slide; a high-speed, 40-foot-high vertical drop slide; and a 26-foot-high serpentine flume body slide. And just for the little ones, there’s a children’s pool area with kid-sided slides.

Coqui Waterpark guests looking for some R&R can enjoy the expansive, 25,554-square-foot sunbathing deck, bordering a 9,000-square-foot, infinity-edge pool. Verdant natural vegetation along the resort hillsides and breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea are part of the experience, too.

The park’s centerpiece is a towering representation of El Yunque’s God of Good, Torre de Yocahu. At 60 feet tall, Torre de Yocahu makes up the waterpark’s main tower, majestically overlooking the Caribbean Sea as well as the slide tower.

Located close to some of the most thrilling adventures available in Puerto Rico — including the El Yunque Rain Forest and one of only four Bio-Bays in the world — the resort also offers an Arthur Hills 18-hole golf course, Golden Door Spa, panoramic pools and private Palomino Island for sunbathing, water sports, horseback riding and more.
